WINTER COURSE: Compare/Contrast

Here is the file that explain compare/contrast style presentations.

Print it, read it, and bring it. This time, you will need to organize effectively. PPT presentations are welcome from now until the end of the semester.

Think of a few things that you can compare -- things you really care about. You are helping others make a good choice. That is the goal.

Finally... print this out for Thursday

Sorry for being late about this.

Here is the info for Presentation #3:

Please print out this file... read it over. We will discuss this in class.

Think of an experience that changed you. It doesn't have to be super-dramatic, but the purpose (lesson learned), should be of use to the other students. The key is that we learn from your experience.

Incidentally, just for something funny, here is a P. Ditty song that was stolen from my brother's band:

For Tuesday March 29

For 9:00 am, Tuesday March 29

Below are several videos by Brian Krueger about interviewing. An interview is form of "presenting." Notice the way Brian moves his hands and the way he pauses, stretches and emphasizes words.

You choose 6 of them and provide a brief summary of them, emphasizing any new words that you might not have known before. An example is given below. Email me your 6 summaries before 9 am on March 29 at english@sejong.ac.kr

1. Tell me about yourself
2. Eye Contact
3. First Steps
4. IQ and EQ
5. Power of the Pause
6. Passion
7. Interviewing Clue
8. Clothing at an Interview
9. Sound Bites
10. Overcoming Nervousness

Example:
A Non-Verbal (Smile)

A Non-Verbal: The most important "non-verbal" (non-spoken)indication of who you are is your smile. Most people are unaware of this. Brian suggests that you take a good long look at your face in the mirror, especially your smile. You should try to develop a warm and genuine smile. You don’t need to keep that smile "plastered" (painted) on your face. Just "come back to it" (do it again) from time to time during the interview.

Don't merely repeat what he says. Summarize.
